Motor Rider Dies In An Accident At Tema Beach Road

A Toyota Highlander with registration number GN 2955-12 last Saturday ran head on into a motorbike, killing the biker on the spot. The deceased, believed to be in his 30s and riding a motorbike with registration M-11-GT 2295, was said to be heading towards Tema Community 3 from Sakumono while Honu Godwin, 32, the driver of the Highlander, was travelling in the opposite direction, with two others on board. Speaking to The Finder last Monday, Corporal Joseph Barabu of the Tema Regional Public Affairs Unit said Godwin Honu, a resident of Tema Newtown Naval Base, who had earlier used his car for a wedding ceremony, went to the Titanic Beach near Tema Community 3 with two other colleagues. Corporal Barabu said after the heavy rainstorm that fateful Saturday, Godwin drove out of the beach at top speed, using the shoulders of the Tema-Sakumono beach road. Meanwhile, the biker was also speeding on the flank of the road. The two collided on that stretch of the road, resulting in the fatality, Corporal Barabu said. According to the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), shoulders of roads should not be used by motorists as they are meant for pedestrians. The Tema Community 2 Police MTTU later arrived at the scene and towed the mangled Toyota Highlander and the motorbike away, and picked Godwin Honu and the two passengers to the station while the deceased was conveyed to the Police Hospital. According to Corporal Barabu, eyewitnesses alleged that they had earlier on seen Godwin taking alcohol at the beach.
