Youth In Aflao...We Are Ready To Welcome Fmr President Rawlings

Some youth of Aflao in the Volta Region say they are ready to welcome former President Rawlings into the town to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the June 4 uprising. On Thursday, the Chiefs in the Aflao Traditional Area registered their objection to the choice of the town as the venue for the event. They believed it will prevent developmental projects earmarked for the area by the NDC government from taking place. But a group called the Concerned Youth of Aflao says it will go ahead with preparations for the anniversary on Sunday. Spokesperson for the group, Nyavi Kosi Joseph in an interview with XYZ News said the concerns of the Chief do not represent the larger interest of the people in the area. The rally to commemorate the event will take place at the Victory Park, Aflao on June 3 at 1pm to be followed on with a parade and wreath laying ceremony at the Revolution Square in Accra on Monday June 4. The office of the former President, Jerry John Rawlings has warned persons in government who are planning to disrupt the June 4 celebration to stay away or will be crushed. Meanwhile, the Volta Regional Executives of the NDC say they will attend the 33rd anniversary of the June 4 uprising in Aflao only if they receive an official invitation. According to the regional NDC Secretary, Stanley Glatey the organizers failed to follow the laid down party structures. Mr. Stanley Glatey told XYZ News that although they were informed about the event , they are ready to participate if invited.
