A 27-year-old pregnant woman, Mary Adjei, has been arrested for allegedly killing her boyfriend, Emmanuel Adusei, at Chiraa in the Sunyani West District of the Brong Ahafo on Monday. Mary was said to have stabbed Emmanuel with a broken mirror around 4.00pm and later took to her heels. Emmanuels body had since been deposited at the Sunyani Regional Hospital morgue. According to an eyewitness, around 3:30pm on Monday, Emma, as he was affectionately called, had a quarrel with his seven-month pregnant girlfriend after which he went to their bedroom to sleep. But the lady followed him into the room, where she carried out the heinous act. After allegedly killing the man, Mary, it was reported, became confused and called a neighbor, one of the ladies in the house, to come and see Emma. The eyewitness said upon entering the room, she found the deceased in a pool of blood. Mary was said to have taken to her heels after the incident and was arrested on her way to Techiman upon a tip off. She was subsequently put before a Sunyani Magistrate court B presided over by Joseph Mensah yesterday. Presenting the facts to the court, Chief Inspector Francis Addo, prosecuting, stated that Mary had been dating the deceased for some time now, and the couple usually engaged in one squabble or the other. But on June 4, 2012 during one of their quarrels, she stabbed the boyfriend with a broken mirror which he showed to the court as exhibit. He said when Mary sensed danger after killing the boyfriend, she went into hiding but upon a search in the town, she was found and arrested. Mary Adjei, who looked heavily pregnant, told the court that she stabbed the boyfriend unintentionally after Emma pounced on her because she asked him for money to buy food. The Magistrate court remanded Mary Adjei into prison custody to reappear on June 26, 2012. Narrating his version of events to Daily Guide, a cousin of the deceased, Emmanuel Osei Oteng said the deceased called him about two weeks ago and indicated that he wanted to return to Kumasi where he came from because he was not happy at Chiraa. However, he did not hear from him again until he was called on Monday with the sad news. Emmanuel Adusei, until his death, was a labourer at Oti Yeboah, a sawmill company and according to a source, he had been dating the lady for a while.
