How D�Banj Celebrated 32nd Birthday

Benin City came alive last weekend to the excitement of Star Trek, the Nigeria Breweries sponsored musical concert. The night featured D�Banj, one of Nigeria�s biggest music superstars who used the opportunity to celebrate his 32nd birthday. He did it on the Star Trek stage and connecting with his fans at the Sandfield, off Etete Road venue of the concert. But he didn�t do it alone. He was joined on stage by hip hop artiste, Ikechukwu with whom he performed the rapper�s club bangers, Critical and Wind Am Well. Unlike earlier performers who mimed to their songs, D�Banj played with a live band and wowed the crowd with songs from his past albums such as Suddenly, Mr. Endowed, Igwe, Oloun Maje, Scape Goat and his current smash hit Oliver Twist. He also performed former label mate, D�Prince�s song, Give It To Me Now. Prior to D�Banj�s electrifying performance, Mavin records talented songstress, Tiwa Savage who performed on Star Trek for the first time kicked off her performance with O Ma Ga O, from the Solar Plexus MixTape, released under Mavin Records. She elated the crowd with Do As I Do, a P Square musical hit which featured her vocals. The songstress however remembered the victims of the Dana Air crash by dedicating a classic, Great Is Thy Faithfulness, to the memories of the lost souls. She rounded off her performance with her hits Kele Kele Love and Without My Heart which featured ace producer and Mavin Records label head, Don Jazzy. In the usual Star Trek tradition, local talents were given the opportunity of performing; and some of the local talents that wowed the crowd were BMG, T Wine, Great Doctor, Bolo Yeung and Breezy, among others. In Sapele more than 7000 people thronged the Sapele Township Stadium to watch Nigeria�s best perform on stage. Waje, who also played with a band incidentally was one of the judges on this year�s edition of Star Quest. Omawunmi, who hails from Delta, thrilled the crowd with her splendid musical performance. Sound Sultan, who a day earlier delighted the Star Trek Benin audience, thrilled an even more excited Sapele Audience. Next on stage was Chocolate City artiste, Ice Prince, who thrilled the crowd with his hits: Oleku, Juju, Superstar, among other hits. He was soon followed by Flavour, with MI, as the headlining act for Sapele. The highlight of the Star Trek Sapele leg was the joint performance by MI and Flavour of Africa Rapper No. 1, MI�s hit track from his MI2 album.
