Asamoah Gyan Considering Black Stars Return

Asamoah Gyan has revealed that he is close to announcing his decision on his return to the Black Stars, five months after temporarily retiring. The striker says he had been suffering psychologically following abuse he had received for missing two crucial penalties while playing for Ghana at the 2012 FIFA World Cup and the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. "I am not upset. It was due to some psychological reasons. The penalty misses have affected me a little and not the criticisms. I expect the criticisms. It's normal in the game," Gyan told Peace FM on Monday in the build up to the charity game in Kumasi between Ghana internationals and artist from the entertainment industry on Sunday. "There is no problem. I have been misquoted about my break from the national team." Having taken time off to heal, Gyan insists it was important to excuse himself from the national team. "I had to take a break so I can psyche myself well. My confidence in the national team had gone low and I hope to return with bigger confidence." "They [GFA] have spoken to my parents and I told them why I took that personal reasons. Psychologically when I am down, i cant come back to play," he said. However, Gyan says that he still hoped to return to the Black Stars with a decision imminent. "The decision to return is now left to me," he said. "Very, very soon, I will make that announcement. In my letter, I stated that my action was indefinite, so it can be any time. I will communicate that soon."
