The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Kweku Baako jnr, has challenged the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Benjamin Kumbour, to end his self-imposed silence on recent allegations of dishonesty that have been made against him.
Kweku Baako was making reference to allegations made by former Attorney-General and Justice Minister Martin A.B.K Amidu, who claimed, last week, that his successor was not a man of integrity because he �manufactured an assassination attempt on himself�.
This allegation by Martin Amidu, according to Kweku Baako, should have almost immediately elicited a response from Dr Kumbour, adding that his continued silence on the issue could reinforce public belief that he indeed concocted the story of someone trying to assassinate him.
The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide threw the challenge last Saturday as a panellist on Joy FM�s current affairs and news analysis programme, Newsfile.
It is recalled that on the on June 28, 2010, an alleged assassination attempt on Dr Kunbour, then Minister of Health, was widely reported in the Ghanaian and international media.
In several interviews with the media in Accra, Dr Kumbour said he was driving home in his VW Passat GR 4656-10 and had just gone past the Labone Senior High School when he heard a disturbing thud on his car.
Thinking it was a stone, he wanted to stop to assess the impact only to realise that the right side of his windscreen had been perforated. Sensing danger, the minister said he sped off. He stated at the time that it was a bullet that hit his car and not a stone.
Dr Kumbour said it was still a mystery to him that he could not find the bullet, given the fact that it must have been shot from ahead of him.
His inability to find the bullet in his car was corroborated eignt days later, in a Police Report signed by DSP Raymond Simpi, which stated categorically clear that the gun could have been fired by Dr Kumbour himself, since it came from the direction of the driver.
According to the Police report, dated July 6, 2010, �the car was examined and found to have a bullet hole on the windscreen. No other bullet marks were observed within or outside the car. The trajectory of the bullet was found to have travelled from the driver�s section through the windscreen to the right (that is, across the front passenger�s section.�
