Dodgy Deals @ Births & Deaths Registry

RELIABLE documents sighted by the Daily STAR has revealed that dodgy and fictitious deals are unfolding at the Births and Deaths Registry engineered by top officials with the prime motive of entrenching their respective positions. According to information gathered by this paper, senior officials at the Births and Deaths registry in the Greater Accra region have subtly adopted plans to alternate their ages contrary to the laid down procedures to go on retirement at the age of 60. Investigations further revealed that the top officials who ignored directives from Registrar of Births and Deaths, Mr. Albert Anthony Ampong to proceed on leave prior to their retirement have managed to change their bio-data during the recent biometric registration exercise to slash down their ages. This papers information is that top individuals who have ignored the directives and alternated their ages are, Ms. Gloria Afosuah, Chief Registration Officer, who doubles as the Deputy Regional Officer, one Samuel Jojo Dolyphine, regional Registration Officer and Deputy Registrar, Mr. Ignatius Akwasi Faibi. Documents available to the Daily STAR indicate that Gloria Ofosuah, born on July 1952 and employed in 1974 as registration assistant Grade 1 and rose through the ranks to become Chief Registration Officer after 38 years of her dedicated service and was due to proceed on leave prior to her retirement, has alternated her age. Gloria Ofosuah during the government/subvented employees/CAP30 pensioners Biometric Registration changed her name to July 14, 1954 while her counterpart, Jojo Dolyphine and Mr. Ignatius Faibi did same to reduce their ages. Further documents disclosed that in February 20th,2012, Mr. Albert Anthony Ampong, the Registrar of Births and Deaths, had officially written to Ms. Ofosuah notifying her about her retirement date. In the letter, the Registrar stated, Our records show that you are to retire from the Civil Service on your 60th birthday which falls on 14th July, 2012. You are therefore to proceed on leave prior to your retirement from the Civil Service with effect from 24th May, 2012. I wish to congratulate you on the efficient manner in which you discharged your duties while with the Registry and wish you long life and prosperity in the years ahead. However, the Chief Registrar has ignored the directive and continues to stay in office and above all, managed to change her ages stoking flames at the Births and Deaths Registry. Checks at the office of the Registry revealed that secret war is on going with all manner of people expressing disgust and dismay about how credible can records be if the seniors at the helm of affairs could alternate their ages for their parochial interest. Sources at the Births and Deaths Registry believe that what is happening at the office can only be described as nothing but fraud, since all documents gleaned by the Daily STAR implicate senior officials at the office. Meanwhile this paper can report that some important documents from the Head Office of the Registry in Accra which belongs to the Deputy Registrar, Mr Ignatius Akwasi Faibi gave further anomalies in his birth certificate. He has worked with the Registry for 22 years, according to his personal records which stated that, he gained employment on the 20-02-1989 as an assistant Registrar. He then moved ranks to senior assistant registrar through to the principal assistant registrar. He is now the deputy registrar. Details uncovered by this paper on one of the documents had his date of birth recorded as 3rd December 1955, but a recent birth certificate which was part of the documents uncovered gave a different date of birth as 3rd December 1970. Another completed register recorded that he was born in 1960 but on the database at the death and birth registry, 1970 is the year of birth. His entire records as discovered by the Daily STAR have been altered on the completed register. The handwriting for his record was done at the head office instead of the Nyamkumasi Registry where his birth certificate should have been done. Further investigations revealed that the deputy registrar has a hand in other fraudulent dealings at the registry. It is not clear why the deputy registrar has slashed his age by 15 years but this paper discovered that Mr Faibis boss is likely to go on retirement very soon. Stay tuned for more mindboggling revelations.
