Parliament Approves Anthony Gyambiby And Owusu-Agyeman

Mr Anthony Gyambiby and Mr Kwadwo Owusu-Agyeman have sailed through as Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice and Deputy Minister for the Interior respectively after heated Parliamentary debate on Friday. The two, who were recommended to the House by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, had their approval delayed on Thursday due to the change of mind by some members of the Committee, according to the state-owned Daily Graphic. During Fridays sitting presided over by the First Deputy Speaker, Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, a voice vote was used to approve the nomination of the two without any protest from members of the House. During the debate on the report of the Appointments Committee on Thursday, Papa Owusu-Ankomah, NPP MP for Sekondi described Mr Gyambiby as an astute prosecutor, who would be useful to the NDC administration. He said he was, however saddened by the performance of Mr Owusu-Agyeman grading him 40 per cent. At this injury time, if anybody is being brought into the Presidents team, he should be someone who will bring an extraordinary skill on board. I am surprised that the Appointments Committee recommended his nomination for approval by consensus, he said. Members who opposed the nomination of Mr Owusu-Agyeman based their arguments on the several errors and inaccuracies in the curriculum vitae (CV) he submitted to the committee.
