'Ministry Of Justice Does Not Exist'

The Ministry of Justice in Ghana does not exist but just a creation of the mind. Thats the conclusion of some legal practitioners who appeared on Radio XYZs current affairs program The Analyst on Saturday. The lawyers were contributing to discussions on the constitution review commissions recommendation that the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice be decoupled at the discretion of the President. The government white paper on the recommendations agreed with the suggestions of the commission and added that there will be no need to amend the constitution to decouple the two offices if the need be. But lawyers Yaw Oppong, Dr. Somtin Tobiga and Kwame Jantuah argued that decoupling of the two offices was irrelevant since the ministry of justice does not exist in the first place. They however argue that if the need be for the Ministry of Justice to be created its functions must be properly spelt out by government.
