AN ATTEMPT by the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Enoch Teye Mensah cover up the problems in the constituency has been exposed by the area�s police.
The MP who doubles as Minister for Water, Resources, Works and Housing claims there was no confusion in the area over the inauguration of the newly created Ningo-Prampram district assembly.
He told a section of the media soon after the inauguration, �Who told you there is a misunderstanding or war between Prampram and Ningo? There is no misunderstanding or war so why do we talk of peace?�
But Superintendent Abraham Kwau, Ningo-Prampram District Police Commander says about 20 youth have been arrested in connection with a riot in the area over the inauguration of the new assembly.
He noted that soon after the arrests, he had information that certain persons had stormed the Ningo Police Station, demanding the immediate release of the suspects or else they would set the station ablaze.
Superintendent Kwau continued that for security reasons, he quickly ordered his personnel at the station to release the suspects after taking their caution statements and granting them bail.
He noted that the current situation between Ningo and Prampram must to be handled with diplomacy calling on traditional heads and opinion leaders to lead the crusade in maintaining peace in the area before things get out of hand.
According to him, he became alarmed when he saw a sign board erected in the area with the inscription �Great Ningo can never be under little Prampram as far as the district capital is concerned.�
Following information that some Ningo youth had created a barricade between the two towns preventing their natives from attending the inauguration ceremony at Prampram, he said he immediately deployed some police officers to Ningo.
The district commander confirmed that irate youth clad in red bands used burning tyres to block the roads and inspected vehicles leaving Ningo to ensure that no native defied the orders of their acting Paramount Chief, Nene Kanor Atiapah III not to attend the ceremony.
