Only 438,034 People Pay Water Bills In Ghana - E.T Mensah

Out of a population of over 24 million people, only about 438, 000 people in Ghana are officially recognized as customers of the Ghana Water Company Limited. And only 72 percent of that number pay water bills in urban Ghana. The remaining 28 percent are unbilled. Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing, E.T Mensah disclosed the figures when he addressed the media at the meet the press series in Accra on Tuesday. Hon. E.T Mensah said �Ghana Water Company Limited is mandated to provide safe, adequate and affordable water to the urban population of Ghana. �Total national customer strength currently is only 438,034 of which 72 percent are billed and 28 percent unbilled. So what it means is that only 438,034 people pay for water in this country� He added. Mr E.T Mensah also said the Government has put in place a committee to revive the affordable housing project which appears to have hit a snag. He said the revival of the project among others will help towards eliminating the current 1.7 million housing deficit in the country. �On the affordable housing programme, the ministry has in place a committee with the objective of re-activating the project and ensuring that the initial investment made by government will not go waste�.
