Rural Banks Should Be Allowed To Manage Common Funds

Rural and Community Banks have renewed their appeal to the government to allow them to handle District Assembly and MP's Common Funds being handled by the commercial banks. They said they are dealing directly with people in their communities as against the big banks operating in the cities. Mr. Robert Job Arkoh, the General Manager of Gomoa Ajumako Rural Bank said Community and Rural Banks were competent and well trained enough to administer those funds efficiently for the benefit of rural folks. He said the Millennium Challenge Account had assisted Rural and Community banks to network to facilitate easy and fast transaction of businesses among themselves across the country. Mr. Arkoh said Gomoa Ajumako Rural bank had introduced more products including Western Union Money transfer, mobile banking, Susu savings and others. He appealed to the management of the two banks to come out with more advanced banking services to ensure improved revenue mobilization.
