Movie Enthusiasts Thrilled At Ghana Classic Movies

The Silverbird Cinema was on Sunday, July 8 filled to capacity as patrons of the cinemas witnessed the premiere of Ghanaian classical movies slated for July 8 to July 15. The screening of all time favorites, I told you so and Heritage Africa brought nostalgic memories to patrons who trooped there to catch a glimpse of the classics as well as contribute their quota to the patronage of Made in Ghana goods and services. I told you so, directed by Egbert Adjeso and Kofi Yirenkyi, and Heritage Africa directed by Kwaw Ansah remain some of the best movies made in times gone by. The movies feature the likes of K. M. Hammond, Comfort Mensah, Baba Buckle, the late Bob Cole and Margaret Quainoo, otherwise known as Araba Stamp; Kofi Bucknor, Ian Collier, Anima Misa, David Dontoh and Alexandra Duah. I told you so combines comedy in the local dialect to tell the story of how young women use riches as a tool for marriage. At the end of the story, one gets a reminder of what might now be a clich; all that glitters is not gold. Heritage Africa is a political drama set in 1955, and follows the conversion of the first black District Commissioner prior to independence in Ghana. The movie presents a diffused political analysis with powerful acting and a tight script which makes interesting viewing with the complex pains and ironies of colonialism. Some patrons who spoke to e.tv Ghana Entertainment desk after the movie session expressed profound gratitude at the opportunity to witness the creativity that was on display years ago. A patron, Jerry John Asiedu, who was full of smiles at the end of one of the movies expressed his satisfaction to the entertainment news team. Im so amazed. I never knew we had a movie like this made by Ghanaians in those days. It is so amazing and I think its of high quality. We should show such movies more often.
