MPs Question GH121,443 Spent On Flagstaff House

Some Members of Parliament have raised concerns over the amount of money spent on renovation works at the Flagstaff house from 2009 till date. The Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, E.T Mensah on Wednesday told Parliament that a total of GH121,443.71 has been spent on the edifice from 2009 to 2011. He indicated that the amount covers the cost of fumigation, maintenance of central air-conditioning, generators and the supply and installation of air-conditioners as well as the re-routing of the server room. But some MPs wondered why such an amount was spent on an edifice they claim is not being used for its original purpose. In response, Hon. E.T Mensah stated that though the building is not being used by the President, it still needs to be maintained to keep it in shape. In a related development, the Speaker of Parliament, Justice Joyce Bamford Addo has admonished MPs to desist from making calls and taking pictures whilst proceedings are ongoing. She said this after MP for Old Tafo/Pankrono Hon. Osei Akoto pointed out to her that the deputy Minister of Health Rojo Mettle Nunoo had attempted to take a picture of her without her notice. Meanwhile, the house on Wednesday passed the public health bill, 2011
