A former Minister for Information, John Tia Akologu, has spoken for the first time about the Isofoton judgment debt saga, after his former deputy was accused of pleading with ex-Attorney General, Martin Amidu, to authorise payment of some $1.3 million to the Spanish firm. Mr. Amidu implicated Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on Thursday when he claimed that the junior minister had called him during his tenure as the Principal State Attorney to inform and plead with him to authorise payment of the said amount, but he refused. Mr. Amidu went on to suggest that Mr. Ablakwa has a reputation for undermining his bosses, explaining why he was calling him over such a sensitive matter which was then in court instead of referring same to his immediate boss at the time, Hon Akologu. Speaking to Citi News, Hon Akologu said although Mr. Ablakwa was wrong to have withheld the subject matter in question from him during his time at the Information Ministry, it would be wrong to say that his deputy undermined his authority. �My relationship with Okudzeto and Agyenim Boateng was very excellent,� the former information minister said. �They respected me, they came to my office each time I called them and even on their own they�d come and say that Minister, we think A, B C and so on.� He added: �We had very good relationship so I wouldn�t have known that there are acts that are taking place.� �I never saw any issue of any judgment debt on my table. They are obliged after I have delegated powers to them, to brief or apprise me. If they act or do something on my behalf or should any deputy act on behalf of their Ministers, they should be able to apprise the Minister because he as the Minister takes the ultimate responsibility for anything,� he pointed out.
