23 Criminals Busted

THE JAMES Town Police and the Accra Central Divisional Command have arrested 23 persons suspected to have committed various crimes. The suspects were picked up in a dawn swoop in separate operations at Adabraka, Arts Centre and Salaga Market. The police retrieved four slabs and 18 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, popularly called wee, two pairs of scissors, eight mobile phones, six television sets, two wooden clubs, a hammer, a motorbike, a standing fan, a number of sound systems and CDs suspected to be pirated, as well as a DVD player Mohammed Ardey, 31, driver, Robert Commey, 23, tailor, Felix Adotey, 23, labourer, Emmanuel Sackey, 27, trader, Larye Ardey, 21, fisherman, Evans Baidoo, 23, driver�s mate, Bernard Allotey, 22, trader, Alex Amartefio, Joseph Quaye, 20, porter, Shaibu Sulley, 26, trader and Ago Allotey, 26, mechanic were among the suspects. The suspects have been detained in separate cells within the Accra Central Division. The Accra Central Divisional Commander, Chief Supt. Oklu Gyamera, said all the 23 persons would be screened and those found culpable would be charged and arraigned. The police commander said the exercise was to smoke out criminals in the area. He was hopeful that the exercise would have a great impact on the country�s crime rate if sustained. He warned persons who planned to take advantage of the frenetic election atmosphere to cause trouble to desist as the police would not spare miscreants. The police chief said the operation followed a media report that certain places in his catchment area had become robbery hubs and dens for armed robbers as well as drug peddlers.
