Ghana Is The Star of Africa

Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Most Reverend Leon Badikebele Kalenga, has noted that "Ghana is a Star of Africa" and advised Ghanaians not to do anything contrary that could undermine the enviable reputation. He said peace is a gift from God and urged Ghanaians to be proud of the peace they are enjoying by ensuring peace, before, during and after the December polls. Reverend Kalenga made the call in a Homily at Akyem Swedru on Wednesday, as part of his Pastoral visit to the Akyem Oda and Asamankese Deaneries. He advised Ghanaians to take a cue from what is happening in some African countries and say no to violence, adding that,This is a blessed land and all must protect it. The Apostolic Nuncio appealed to religious leaders to continue using the pulpit to preach peace, unity and tolerance at all times to ensure a stable political climate in Ghana. He challenged Christians to live lives worthy of emulation and to intensify their evangelism to convert more people to know Christ. The Rev. Kalenga also urged Christians to love their Bishops saying No politician can die for you but the Bishops can sacrifice their lives for you. He advised parents to send their children, especially the girl-child to school to enable them to play useful roles in the society. The Apostolic Nuncio later broke the grounds for construction of a Parish Hall for the Saint Andrew Catholic Church at Akyem Swedru. Most Rev. Joseph Afrifa Agyekum, Catholic Bishop of Koforidua, expressed worry about political partisanship, provocative phone-in on radio stations and advised Ghanaians to tolerate each others opinions. He said there is the genuine and urgent need for unity and peace in the country since we are all brothers and sisters. Okotwasuo Kantamanto Oware Agyekum the third, Omanhene of the Akyem Bosome Traditional Area, called for a closer cooperation between the Church and traditional authorities to accelerate the pace of development in the communities. An appeal for funds yielded GHC 5,000.
