Presby Moderator Should Blame Prez Mills For Invasion Of Ghana - Owusu Bempah

Communications Director of political pressure group Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR), Ernest Owusu-Bempah, says the Moderator of the Presby Church should look no further than President Mills for answers on why Ghana has been virtually invaded by foreigners, mostly Chinese. According to Mr Owusu-Bempah, President Mills style of leadership, especially his aloof posture and the various policies implemented under his watch, particularly in the areas of trade and foreign policy, were the primary causes of the virtual takeover of every aspect of Ghanaian society by foreigners. Ernest Owusu-Bempah made the observation on Adom FMs Dwaso Nsem morning show on Tuesday July 24 when contributing to a panel discussion on the call by the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for the leadership of the country to tackle the issue of galamsey with the needed urgency in order to save the future of the country. Rt. Rev. Professor Emmanuel Martey, who made the call on Sunday in Wa, said Ghana had been invaded and was being raped of its resources but what was sad was that nobody, including the national leadership, chiefs, among others, seemed to care about what was going on. What is our government doing when foreigners and their Ghanaian counterparts are destroying the environment? Religious leaders, are you sleeping if the political and traditional leaders are sleeping? Ghana is being raped, he declared heatedly. The moderator was of the view that leaders of today had taken advantage of the helpless and vulnerable in all kinds of activities. The Lord will judge every ruler who takes advantage of his people, he added. Endorsing fully Rev Prof Marteys views, Owusu-Bempah, however said the situation where illegal immigrants could enter the country and engage in commercial activities without serious attention from the security agencies was just a reflection of the general malaise that has afflicted the country under the leadership of Prof Mills. It all boils down to leadership. If the chief executive officer is not stamping his authority, how can the nation move forward? I agree with the Moderator, but he should have put the blame squarely on President Mills, because he is the commander in chief of the Ghana Army. He is the head of allGhanaians have given him the highest authority, the mandate to rule, to hire and fire. Lets look at the demeanour and character of President Mills. He is always playing the aloof politics; he always wants to please everybody and play the aloofness. But if you are a leader, and you are not prepared to step on peoples toes (to get the job done) then you have no business leading that country. All the great leaders were prepared to do what had to be done to move their countries forward. Our head is not ready to lead. Even when people like Anas have done exposes, the president has failed to stamp his authorityvarious incidents at Hohoe, somebody was beheaded in the presidents own region of Central, the president has remained quiet. When pushed, the President told us he was not a policeman. All the lawlessness boils down to leadership. Also contributing, former NPP MP for Asuogyaman and currently NPP candidate for the constituency, Kofi Osei Ameyaw, blamed the current situation on the politicization of the security agencies thereby blunting their effectiveness. Because of the winner-takes-all nature of Ghanas politics, every succeeding government does all in its power to pack the security agencies with its loyalists, who repay this benevolence with blind obedience, he lamented. He also blamed the past and present governments penchant for contracting loans, especially from China, which had tied governments hands and prevented the effective enforcement of the law. The deplorable conditions under which the security agencies lived, particularly the police, was also a fertile ground for infiltration and manipulation by both local and foreign criminals with enough money. Until a major effort is made by the state to improve the lot of the security agencies through a combination of measures, no amount of talk would change the situation, he declared.
