President Mahama Promises Historic December 2012 Polls

The President, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, has assured Ghanaians that he will put in place the necessary mechanisms to ensure free, fair and peaceful presidential and parliamentary elections this year to consolidate the countrys democratic credentials. He said his commitment to transparent elections was in fulfillment of the promise made by the late President, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, to ensure that this years elections were free, peaceful and successful. President Mahama gave the assurance that when he was endorsed by the party at its September 1, 2012 special delegates congress, he would work with all members to ensure a resounding victory for the NDC in the election to continue with the good work of President John Evans Atta Mills. Prof has cut out the job for me. He has given me the tutelage on how to carry out the work. I assure you that I will not do anything to disappoint you. I will be consulting and unifying, he said. President Mahama was speaking when members of cadres corps called on him at the Castle Osu, to express their condolence on the demise of former President Mills and to congratulate on him on his new office as the President. The cadres corps pledged their loyalty to President Mahama and promised to organize the grassroots of the NDC to ensure victory for the party in the December election. President Mahama said former President Mills worked tirelessly to improve the living standards of the people and deepen Ghanas democracy. He described the tutelage he received from the former President as a professional one from a man of peace, tolerance and humility. Therefore, he said, the late President would be happy when the party won the election to continue with the good work that he had started. The President said the death of the former President should bring all members of the NDC together to chart a common path of ensuring the success of the party in the run-up to the election. He, therefore, thanked the cadres for offering their support, saying that the support of the cadres was critical to the success of the party.
