NPP To Field New Candidate For Bawku Central

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said it is considering a new candidate for the Bawku Central seat following the incarceration of the sitting legislator Adamu Dramani Sakunde. The MP was last Friday sentenced to two years imprisonment on three counts of false declaration, perjury and deception of a public officer. The Campaign Manager for Sakunde, Tanimu Abdulai said, although the lawyer for the MP is appealing against the judgement, the party would not want to take any chances. According to him, the party leadership in the Upper East Region is currently considering six prospective candidates. He explained that Although the campaign so far was all about him, I dont think it will affect us in any way because we have a solid campaign and support base. Any candidate we will put up, we will win hands down. Mr. Abdulai added that we are not putting any campaign on hold, we are on track and we are moving ahead. We are thinking of replacing him. We are sure of winning the appeal but we cant be 100 percent sure. Meanwhile, the counsel for the incarcerated Bawku MP, Yoni Kulendi has served notice he would appeal against his clients judgment.
