As glowing tributes continue to pour in � in memory of President John Evans Atta-Mills � The New Weekend Crusading Guide�s Anas Aremeyew Anas, has revealed the late president�s connection and interest in his investigative work on Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) titled the �President�s Assignment.� In an exclusive interview, Anas confirmed that Professor Mills personally assigned him to unearth the �corrupt� deals at ECG. �It was something that he (Mills) really wanted and asked me to do�, he disclosed. Anas, showing a lot of respect for the deceased Ghanaian leader, said he was �devastated� that the late president could not live to witness the full implementation of the work he initiated. He was hopeful that President John Dramani Mahama would continue with the passion of his predecessor to achieve the value of work that was done in the ECG investigations. He recalled that Professor Mills was personally interested in the investigation which has now become a case pending in court, adding that he (Mills) was periodically calling for an update. �That was how passionate the president was with the investigations I handled�, Anas held. The highly rated undercover journalist has hinted of another big expose� of his ongoing investigations soon to hit the country, which he noted was �the last wish of the President.� He underscored his mission: �As a commitment to all governments to move the national agenda forward, it doesn�t matter the colours of political parties or persons, but Ghana first.� Readers will recall that a few months ago, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagberarer, Nana Akufo Addo noted he would use the �Anas� Principle� in fighting corruption embedded in public institutions. �My government would institutionalize what I call the �Anas principle,� to create a new culture of fear for corrupt practices. We must infest the disciples of corruption with paranoia, in that you may never know that the person you are giving the bribe to or receiving it from may be an undercover agent,� he said. Nana Addo explains: �I intend to establish a special anti-corruption squad, made up of some of our best young talents, well-trained, well-paid, well-disciplined, with the licence to root our corruption from every nook and cranny of our public life. I know this may be controversial but I am resolute in my conviction to remove the hold that corruption has on our institutions and our development. Serious problems call for serous solutions. I will introduce stiffer punishments for corruption to make the theft of State funds more expensive for the criminal than the stealing of a goat�, the NPP flagbearer was commenting on Anas� investigative story on ECG.
