Olympics: Senegal qualify for quarter final

Senegal is through to the quarter finals of the Olympic Mens football tournament after Moussa Konate scored the equalising goal in the 1:1 draw with the United Arab Emirates at the City of Coventry Stadium. Ismaeil Matar scored against the run of play in the 21st minute after good work by Rashed Eisa who supplied a low cross from the left flank, just where his captain wanted it. Senegal finally made amends for the profligacy in front of goal when Souare's cross found Konat in the kind of space from which it would have been difficult to miss. Moussa Konate fourth goal in three matches put Senegal into the quarter-finals as runners-up to England in Group A, leaving the fancied Uruguay to depart early. The draw means Senegal will face Mexico in the quarter finals. Meanwhile, Egypt also joined Brazil in the quarter-finals after beating Belarus 3:1 and will now face Japan. Another African representative, Gabon, exited the tournament after drawing 0:0 with South Korea.
