Olympics: 8 badminton players disqualified

Eight badminton players have been disqualified from the women's doubles competition after being accused of "not using one's best efforts to win". The players -- four from South Korea, two from China and two from Indonesia -- have also been charged with "conducting oneself in a manner that is clearly abusive or detrimental to the sport" during matches on Tuesday, the federation said in a statement. The charges result from two lackluster contests in London that angered the watching crowds, according to the official Olympic news service. Indonesia and South Korea have appealed and a decision is expected before Wednesday's quarter-finals (19:00 BST). The Badminton World Federation met on Wednesday morning to discuss the case. As well as the "not using best efforts" charge, the players were also accused of "conducting oneself in a manner that is clearly abusive or detrimental to the sport".
