AMA Cautioned Against Removing Paraphernalia Of Political Parties

The flag-bearer of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Dr Abu Sakara, has cautioned the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) against discrimination in the removal of paraphernalia of the various political parties in Accra in honour of our late President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills. He said while the party concurred with preparations for the funeral rites and burial of the late President Mills, it had noticed that some party flags were being removed in a discriminatory fashion. He told graphic.com.gh that the development was likely to undermine the unity with which all the political parties mourned the late president. Dr Sakara wondered if it was necessary to remove the flags and why the AMA would not allow the national flags to fly above those of the political parties. He added that party paraphernalia together with the national flags served as an honour to the late President since he was a father for all. He urged the AMA to ensure that it fixed all party paraphernalia it had removed back after the funeral, cautioning against discrimination in that process. It will seem discriminatory and abuse of incumbency should any political party paraphernalia be left out in the process of hanging and pasting them after the final funeral rites of our late President, he said. If they are bent on removing them then they should remove the paraphernalia of all parties. They should not leave any party out. And when they fix them back, they should not leave any party out. They should not fix only NDC paraphernalia and leave those of other parties out, he said. Replacing those posters, banners and billboards, he said, would be at great cost to the party hence it was important that the right thing was done by the AMA. Let us all as one people ensure we provide an atmosphere that will be fair to all as a sign of honour to late President Mills who wanted nothing but good for the people of Ghana. This I believe will make us more united than ever especially as we go into the December elections, he advised.
