Some people of Ga-Mashie have expressed their displeasure about the way the Homowo festival was celebrated due to the burial of President John Evans Atta Mills.
According to them, the day of burial was inappropriate since �Haajiayeleyeli,� which literally means �yam festival for the twins,� was being observed.
A group of people spotted at the Sempe Palace at James Town stated that �the funeral slowed down the celebration of their festival.�
In an interview with The Finder, Rebecca Akweley Atoh, a twin, explained that the yam festival was celebrated to mark the importance of twins to Gas and also seek the destinies of the twins from the gods.
�We all have lost a father, but they should have taken our festival into consideration and postponed the burial till our festival was concluded because this is not done anywhere in the country,� an elderly women at the Sempe Palace, Comfort Tetteh, told The Finder.
However, in an interview with Mr Samuel Kpakpo Allotey, one of the principal elders at the Sempe Palace, the funeral was allowed to take place because they saw it as way of honouring the late President.
�The funeral has made this year�s festival very dull as compared to previous years and I hope it will be better next year,� said Nii Anum Tetteh, stool administrator of Sempe Palace.
