Driver In Court For Possessing Heroin And Cannabis

Kofi Sam, alias Okonkwo, a 32-year old driver from Cape Coast was on Tuesday, remanded into prison's custody by a Cape Coast Circuit Court for allegedly possessing narcotic drugs and jumping bail after his arrest. He pleaded guilty to jumping bail but not to possession of narcotic drugs and would be re-arraigned on Tuesday August 28 to prove his innocence. Assistant State Attorney, Kofi Seshie Ametewee, told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Asare Nyako that on Monday September 19 last year, the Central Regional Police had a tip off that a group of people were trading narcotic drugs at a hideout in Abura, a suburb of Cape Coast. He said upon the arrival of the Police, the group managed to escape except Sam who was arrested and detained at the Criminal Investigative Department (CID). The State Attorney said 15 wrappers of a whitish substance and 39 wrappers of dry leaves which were later confirmed to be heroin and cannabis respectively by forensic test, were found at the hideout. Mr Ametewee said two days after the arrest Sam escaped from Police custody but was re- arrested that same day. He told the court that he went to the hide out to collect money from a member of the group and was on his way out when the police arrested him.
