The national executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) yesterday called on their New Patriotic Party (NPP) counterparts at the latter�s national headquarters at Asylum Down, Accra. The delegation, made up of National Organiser Yaw Boateng Gyan, Propaganda Secretary Richard Quashigah and others was led by the party�s General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who told their hosts that the visit was intended to show the party�s appreciation for the support the leadership of the NPP exhibited during the death and funeral of the late President John Evans Atta Mills. The brief but significant visit was, as the NDC scribe pointed out, in consonance with Ghanaian tradition of calling on those �who mourned with you when you are bereaved�. The delegation was received by the leadership of the NPP led by National Chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey. The chairman told his guests that the gesture of his party was also in line with Ghanaian culture of mourning over the loss of leaders. The NPP leadership, he said, supported its NDC counterparts in mourning because the late president belonged to the whole country. The death of the late president, he said, came as a shock to the NPP. �We mourned regardless of our political differences and disagreement on major issues,� he added. Both parties, he said, would soon return to the trenches of politics, after which the guests took leave of their hosts to end the historic visit. Supporting the party chairman in receiving the guests were NPP General Secretary Kwadwo Afriyie aka Sir John, Anthony Karbo and others. In the heat of Mills� death, when the NPP flag-bearer, Nana Akufo Addo, suspended his campaign tour in deference to the late president and ordered same for all party functionaries, the NDC general secretary said the NPP was only shedding crocodile tears and could go ahead and campaign anyway. That he led the delegation at all is ample proof that he did not mean it when he told his NPP counterparts that they were shedding crocodile tears.
