Manchester United Agree Fee For Robin van Persie

Manchester United have confirmed they have agreed a fee with Arsenal for the sale of striker Robin van Persie. The deal is subject to Van Persie passing a medical and agreeing personal terms. The 29-year-old will travel to Manchester on Thursday to meet with United officials and look to complete the move to Old Trafford. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had earlier this week insisted he was not looking to sell his skipper. "Our fans want him to stay so you can understand they are excited. Anything I could say about van Persie would be a lie because he's our player and that's it," said the Frenchman. "Robin scored 30 goals last season and you want to keep your best player. He was player of the year in England. "We want to keep him. I cannot tell you more at the moment because I don't know more. "We have not bought the players to replace van Persie, but to strengthen our squad with the thinking van Persie will stay. That's still my mind at the moment." However, the Gunners and United had held talks about a deal on Tuesday night, with the Red Devils believed to have told their league rivals that they wanted the move to go through before the Premier League kick-off this weekend. And a short statement on Arsenal's official website on Wednesday night read: "Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Robin van Persie to Manchester United. "Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move." United's official website also issued a brief statement which read: Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Arsenal Football Club for the transfer of Robin Van Persie. "The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms." Neither club has confirmed the fee involved, but it is believed the 29-year-old will cost United somewhere in the region of 22million.
