Medical Asso Member Replies Omane Boamah's Letter To Mills

LETTER FROM HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT JOHN EVANS FIIFI ATTA MILLS PMB ASOMDWEE PARK CASTLE MARINE DRIVE OSU ACCRA GHANA TO: DR OMANE BOAMAH DEP MINISTER OF YOUTH AND SPORTS MINISTRY OF YOUTH AND SPORTS MY Dear DOC, Let me just say a big thank you for your letter. Its good to know there are people who genuinely care for my health and well being even in death. Let me also use this opportunity to thank all Ghanaians for their numerous and varied show of sympathy and support for me and my family after my departure. I have been well received by all and sundry, especially the Ghanaian Community here. Prof Adu Boahene, Hawa Yakubu, Dr Hilla Liman, and of course Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah all extend their greeting to you. Doc your letter raised an issue which was a great worry to me during my three years in Office. Doc, it saddens me that after all the advice I used to give you during my time on earth, you still have not changed your behavior especially towards your fellow medical colleagues. I do not know what happened between your hounourable self and the GMA, but I must remind you that you are now a minister and you should try to desist from allowing your personal opinions about the GMA from affecting your utterances and work. If you remember, one of the legacies I left behind was to make sure that state institutions and private institutions are not politically branded but are rather allowed to work in an atmosphere of freedom from Political and governmental influence. Even when people were talking about killing the cat, I always maintained that there is a need for tolerance in our political dispensation. I believe my brothers and sisters are only curious as to what was the sequence of events that led to my untimely and unprecedented death. Frankly I do not blame them, and perhaps if I were in their shoes I might behaved likewise. I have met Dr Opoku Adusei, (President of GMA) on several occasions and I was a bit disappointed in the manner with which you seem to drag his name into disrepute. If I remember correctly , Dr. Opoku Adusei only explained that the Associations call is to enable the country put in place proper medical and security procedures to avert the recurrence of any POSSIBLE negligence that MIGHT have led to my death. I think this is a laudable idea, and I wouldnt mind any such inquiry provided its done with utmost civility and respect to all those involved. So you refused to register with the GHANA MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, because of the attitude of a Few of their leaders during the past few years? Doc this is very unfortunate. Let me ask you 3 questions 1) Did you bother to find out from Dr Opoku Adusei, under whose authority he made those requests? 2) How come you know so much about the National Executive Committee and Council of an organization which you claim you will never bother to register with? You should remember that a ministerial position is only temporary, but a medical Doctor is a lifelong profession. The GMA I believe IS a non partisan entity which has a Moral and Social obligation to comment on all matters relating to the health of the nation. I am surprised you have resorted to attacking your own colleagues and the Organization which you are SUPPOSED to be a member of. Please try to restrain yourself the next time you feel an urge to attack the integrity of people you hardly know. His excellency John Dramani, is a man who will not be swayed by ministers embarking on cheap and futile publicity stunts just to get his Attention. If he decides not to work with you, these political gimmicks you are embarking on will not help you. Please go back to work and stop wasting your time writing these letters. Remember THE BETTER GHANA AGENDA IS STILL ON COURSE. Once again Thank you for your letter and Let the Peace continue to prevail in my beloved country. Thank you Delivered by Special emissary (Dr JOSEPH KOFI GYANTEH, Proud member of GMA) for PROF JOHN FIIFI ATTA MILLS (FORMER PRESIDENT OF REPUBLIC OF GHANA).
