Michael Essien Ready To Fight For Place At Chelsea

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien says he will stay stay at Chelsea despite his very limited first team opportunities. The 29-year-old has fallen down the perking order under manager Roberto Di Matteo since returning from a lengthy injury layoff. Essien is yet to feature for the Blues this season raising several concerns especially in Ghana of his future at the club. With numerous youthful arrivals this term, many believe the ex Olympique Lyon midfielder should leave the club in search of regular first team action with what appears to be a regime change at Stamford Bridge. But Essien insists he will stay and rather fight for a place in the new-look attacking Chelsea set up. My intention is to stay and Im looking forward to a new season, he said. I still have two more years here. Im still here, Im still around. The Ghana international adds he will not alter his game in a desperate attempt to fit into the more youthful look of the European champions. Im the sort of person who is very calm; Im a very positive person. I just get on with what I have to do, what work I have to do. Ive not changed and wont change my style. Chelsea have spent massively this summer bringing in players such as Edin Hazaard, Marko Marin, Oscar with the latest addition being Victor Moses from Wigan. The new additions have seen players such as Florent Malouda, Yossi Benayoun and Michael Essien unable to get a place in the starting XI. Even Frank Lampard had to start from the bench in their weekends win over Newcastle sending a strong signal of the regime change at the London club.
