President John Dramani Mahama Thursday declared that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would secure a one-touch victory in the December 7, 2012 election. �There will be no second round in the 2012 election. It is going to be a one-touch victory�, he said after receiving a massive endorsement as the flag bearer of the NDC for the 2012 election by the party�s special national delegates congress in Kumasi. He said with God on the side of the NDC, victory would be for the party in the December 7, 2012, election, and therefore urged the rank and file of the party to launch a massive campaign to guarantee that one-touch victory. President Mahama said although the party had been late in kick-starting the campaign, following the demise of the President John Evans Atta Mills, the party would put in a lot of work to deliver the victory for the party. He said he had confidence in the work of the party�s foot soldiers, and urged them to go to the nook and cranny of the country to preach the good message of the party. The President charged all NDC members to be vigilant but not violence, stressing that �the election is not an �all die be die� but it is going to be peaceful and Ghana will continue to be a beacon of democracy in Africa.� Sounding biblical, he said just as how God led Joshua to the promised land, so would God help him to take the NDC to the promised land.On the party�s unity, President Mahama concede some differences emerged in the party following its victory in the 2008 election and noted that those disagreements were not managed well in the past. However, he said President Mills�s death had opened a new opportunity for the party to unite. He, therefore, pledged to do everything to iron out the differences and cement the bond of opportunity that bind the party. �I will do everything to restore the hope and confidence Prof Mills had promised you�, he pledged to the party members. President Mahama noted that intermittent resounding cheers that the members gave to the former President Jerry John Rawlings anytime his name was mentioned, sent a strong message that the rank and file of the party were not happy with the disunity in the party. �The rank and file are tired of the disagreements and disunity�, he said, and affirmed his resolve to work �to make the NDC a united party.� President Mahama said the presence of former President Rawlings did not mean that the disagreements in the party was over, but quick to say that �we have to work together to consolidate the symbolism of his being here.� He said the presence of former President Rawlings was the first step towards consolidating the unity in the party. He expressed special gratitude to former President Rawlings for putting on hold his international engagement abroad, including his visit to Ethiopia to participate in the burial service of the late Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, to attend the congress. The Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, pledged to campaign vigorously in towns and villages within the next three months to ensure a resounding victory for President Mahama in the election, counting on his 30 years of unfettered experience of service from the PNDC to the current NDC government. Vice-President Amissah-Arthur thanked former President Rawlings for appointing him to serve as Deputy Minister at the young age of 32, the late President Mills for making him the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and President Mahama for selecting him as Vice-President.
