Court Orders EC To Release Voter IDs To Odododiodio Traders

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Odododiodio constituency of the Greater Accra Region has secured a court ruling against the Electoral Commission for retaining the voter identity cards of some residents in the area. The decision to withhold the voters cards followed a lot of brouhaha surrounding the legitimacy of traders working within the Central Business District of Accra who wished to register in the Odododiodio Constituency. Over 100 of the affected residents appealed against the ECs decision resulting in three separate High Court Judges ruling in their favor on Thursday. The lawyer for the affected applicants, Richard Obliteye Solomon told Citi News said: The ruling means that the applicants application for registration has been endorsed and the orders made by the various Judges was that the EC should release the voter ID cards of those who appealed and appeared before the Judges to enable them exercise their franchise. He however added that he and his clients are yet to serve the Electoral Commission with the order and they would have to respond to make the ruling effective.
