A Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Evans Aggrey- Darko has advised President John Dramani Mahama to ensure he does not create more divisions in the party while heeding the call of former President Rawlings to restore integrity to the party and the presidency.
To ensure this, President Rawlings at the party�s special congress in Kumasi on Thursday gave an analogy that �It is often said that we should not throw out the baby with the bath water, but then what do we do when some of the children in the tub don�t look like children? What do we do when some of the children have teeth that can bite hard? What do we do when some of these babies can spew some very horrible invectives?
Mr. Aggrey-Darko in an interview with Citi News, said: �The party just has three months to prepare for the elections so in heeding to this call, you wouldn�t want to create more disaffection and so what he has to do is to perhaps indicate precisely where you want to go and the direction you want to take.�
He opined that the analogy could suggest that some persons in the NDC Government must be moved out or cautioned to ensure total unity and a win for the party.
�These are very strong words he used and if you analyze it critically, it seems to suggest that there are people in there who perhaps should not be there and who must be discarded or who should be reformed or thrown away.�
But the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has told Citi News, the proverbial statement made by the founder and former President Jerry John Rawlings may probably not be in reference to anybody in party.
He said: �I can�t interpret this proverb but it may even not be referring to people in the party or human beings at all but proverbs are proverbs so you may need him to explain further but I cannot conjecture anything whether it is persons he is referring to or animals.�
