Two cyclists are in the intensive care unit of the Tema General Hospital (TGH) after an unlicensed taxi driver knocked them down last Friday within a range of about 500 metres on the Ashaiman-Michel Camp road.
The taxi driver, whose name was given as Handen Awusi, was driving a Toyota Corolla, with registration GW 1651 Y, from Ashaiman to Afienya.
According to eyewitnesses, Joshua Amenu, who joined the main road from the opposite heavy traffic lane from Michel Camp to the Ashaiman Timber Market Roundabout, was knocked down by the driver few metres after the Afariwaa Junction.
The driver picked the injured in his car with the intention of rushing him to TGH for treatment, but only 500 metres from the first accident spot, he again ran into a yoghurt seller, Isaac Nyaba.
Handen, according to eyewitnesses, picked both injured persons and rushed them to the TGH Emergency Care Unit, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Confirming the news to The Finder, Chief Inspector Benjamin Adu Asamoah, the station officer of the Ashaiman District Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), expressed worry at the careless and inconsiderate driving some motorists exhibit on the road.
�During police investigations and interrogation, we realised that Handen Awusi was not driving on a licence. The police have charged the accused on three counts of careless and inconsiderate driving, negligently causing harm and driving without a driver�s licence,� the MTTU station officer stated.
