PPP Likely To Select Female Running Mate

The flag bearer of the Progressive People�s Party, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has hinted in an exclusive interview with Citi FM, that his running mate for the December polls is most likely going to be a woman. Stopping short of mentioning any names, the PPP leader said he will reveal his choice of running mate for the Election 2012 by Friday. According to Dr. Nduom a committee, set up to review the choice of running mate for the Decemeber polls, has narrowed the potential running mate candidates down to about four people of which two are women. He pointed out that the criteria of running mate "has been a lot on the area competence and dedication to public service". The issue of female running mate has been a major talking point for many women's rights advocacy groups in Ghana with some arguing that the percentage of appointments offered women in successive governments have been woeful. Dr Ndoum was speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show via its unique social media platform hinged on Google Hangouts on Air. The platform, the first time to be used on a radio station in Africa, has featured other great personalities such as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, NPP Vice Presidential candidate. On some other policy issues, Dr Ndoum took is promise to ensure transparency in his government a notch higher by pledging to declare his assets both in Ghana and abroad. He noted that his decision was testament to his desire to fight against corruption in the Ghana. The PPP leader further reiterated his challenge to his colleague flag bearers to take similar steps to ensure Ghana attains a corruption free leadership.
