Bawku Residents Storm NPP Headquarters

Some angry residents of Bawku living in Accra and Kumasi on Wednesday besieged the NPP headquarters in Accra over what they described as the party national leaderships silence on the incarceration of their Member of Parliament, Hon. Adamu Dramani Sakande. Hon. Sakande was on July 27 sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Accra Fast Track High Court for holding dual citizenship to get elected into public office contrary to the constitution of Ghana. He has since been on admission at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospitals cardiothoracic centre. Presenting their petition, the spokesperson for the aggrieved Bawku residents, Mboda Osman Kariyama expressed their displeasure on the partys lackadaisical approach to their MPs incarceration. We actually went to the NPP headquarters to register our displeasure on the way the party leadership is handling the case of the incarcerated MP of Bawku Central constituency, Hon. Adamu Dramani Sakande. He bemoaned, After Adamus incarceration the party has not actually shown any sense of urgency to fast track or process the appeal and we were made to understand that the judgment that the judge gave the documents have not been released to his lawyers to file an appeal; so we sense that the party itself has not shown any much concern because if they had any concerns about the MP who is also a member of the party they would have at least shown some concern to advice his lawyers on what to do or do some kind of solidarity support for him, but they havent done that. Kariyama asserted that some prison officers guarding the jailed Bawku MP at the hospital have been molesting him. As at now the MP is at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital and on a particular day a prisons officer who works with the operations directorate, Superintendant C.K Gbedeku on the 9th of August went with two machomen and assaulted the MP and the party didnt even come out to condemn it, he alleged. We think the MP has been left to his own fate as far as the party is concerned and that is why we went there to express our displeasure on the way they are handling the case of our MP and if our own MP is being handled that way where lies the fate of we the electorate, the constituents, he fumed.
