Election 2012: Contest Will Be Between NDP And NPP...The NDC Should Count Itself Out

THE NEWLY-FORMED National Democratic Party (NDP), an offshoot of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified its membership drive. It has so far registered more than 1,000 members in the New Juaben municipality of the Eastern region and is working feverishly to field parliamentary candidates for the 28 constituencies there to contest the December 7 general elections. With just two more to go, the party in the region hopes to round up the opening of constituency offices by the end of next week with interim constituency executive members put in place to manage them. The partys branded cars have already been distributed to the regions and are being used for political activities. NDP Interim Regional Chairman, Osikani Wiafe who made these known to Daily Guide at Koforidua said the party was poised to wrest power from the ruling NDC. The NDC should count itself out of this election contest because it has totally failed Ghanaians and that the contest will be between the NDP and the NPP, he added. According to him, the NDC had completely failed Ghanaians in relation to the social contract the party signed with the people therefore they are not prepared to renew its mandate. The NDC said it would make NHIS one-time premium, reduce corruption, stabilize the economy, give jobs to the teeming unemployed youth but now what do we see, corruption everywhere, unemployment is soaring high, economy in tatters while the government has not been able to make the NHIS one-time premium. Osikani Wiafe stressed that members of the NDP left the mother party because they felt they had been used and dumped by the NDC. According to him, most people joining the NDP are the between the ages of 20 and 45; most of them are disgruntled members with the rest being floating voters. Our party is for the grassroots people and will involve everybody in the scheme of things. Mr. Wiafe said the NDC criticized the erstwhile NPP government for supposedly toying with electricity supply in the country even when rainfall pattern was erratic but now electricity supply under the NDC is erratic to the point of affecting industries.
