Kawanopado put up a dominating performance to win the title in the 2012 Indomie Community Dunks finals at the expense of Kwadaso over the weekend. The Cape Coast-based side was a delight to watch as they strolled to victory at the El-wak stadium in their debut appearance. Drawn in pot A, coach Claudius Thompson's young charges made their intention of winning the ultimate clear after they brushed aside Asokwa 32-25 in their opening encounter. With captain David Sagoe in full flight, it was obvious the twinkle twinkle boys from the coastal region of Ghana were in for serious business. They continued their impressive form by beating Dansoman 32-25 to put them in good stead for a semi-final berth. Kawanopado wrapped up their group campaign with a resounding 43-30 win over Cantonments to set-up a semi-final meeting with Burma Camp. The side got their rhythm intact and with a fluid display from the boys, they white-washed the high scoring side 51-22 and rolled into the finals for their first time of asking. They met a resolute Kwadaso side who gave them a good run for their money as they took the game to Kawanopado. The Kumasi-based side took the lead in the first quarter- catching their opponents on attack and not allowing them space and time to operate. But complacency began to set in during the second quarter as they allowed Kawanopado to claw back to dictate the pace of the game. With 15 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists, playing all 40 minutes, Kwadaso had no answer to James Duodu as Kawanopado took the initiate on the first basket of the third quarter and never gave it back in a 53-41 win. It was the greatest individual performance in the final from Duodu who used his height to his advantage. It was indeed a phenomenal run by Kawanopado who won the competition in an amazing style and ink their name in the history books. In front of a partisan crowd, Burma Camp restored some pride by beating Dansoman to clinch bronze. It was the first time that the competition attracted communities outside the Greater Accra region and history beckoned for both Kawanopado and Kwadaso who sold out an exciting final contest. Some of the participating communities included Djejeano-Anafo, Asokwa, James Town. The 2012 edition of the Indomie Community Dunks will was hugely competitive that saw the emergence of new talents. The competition was sponsored by Indomie Instant Noodles and powered by Rite Multimedia-leaders in basketball development and promotion in Ghana.
