Ghana Needs Its Own Unique Political Transition - Head Of British Civil Centre

Ghanaians are the only ones who can determine what best political transitions suit them. That is the advice given by a former Cabinet Secretary and Head of the British Civil Service, The Right Honourable Lord Augustine Thomas O Donnell. Lord ODonnell is in the country to share the British experience in transition of governments. Lord ODonnell gave this advice during a dialogue under the auspices of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), British High Commission and the Public Services Commission. He shared the British experience in managing political and administrative transitions with his immense experience in managing such transitions under three successive Prime Ministers of Britain. Lord ODonnell stressed that the differences in traditions and conventions between Ghana and the UK may not allow a wholesale adoption of British best practices. He believes Ghanaians can develop a unique transitional method that best suits their culture by observing best practices elsewhere. While in Ghana, Lord ODonnell would lead a technical workshop for high government officials, corporate leaders and academicians to deliberate on issues concerning the management of change and continuity in political and administrative transitions, and how to respond to them effectively.
