POLICE CORPORAL Victor Jeremiah Gaise has been arrested by the Documentation and Visa Fraud (DVF) Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters to assist in an ongoing investigation into a fake recruitment case. Gaise, 44, until his arrest yesterday, was stationed at the Tema Buffalo Unit. His arrest was necessitated by an investigation into the false enlistment of some seven recruits who reported at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra, on Saturday, September 15, 2012 with cloned admission letters. The letters, which had cloned signature of the director-general of human resource, was issued, according to the victims, only after each of them had paid an amount of GH�2,000, fees Gaise charged for what he termed �protocol enlistment�. Gaise, during interrogation, admitted to fraudulently extorting money accruing to GH�12,000 from prospective recruits. Speaking to Daily Guide, the Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur, said Cynthia Antindago, 30, Ruth Yeboah Duodu, 25, Benedicta Obeng Tima, 26, Salomey Emefa Glago, 24, Celestine Agbozoh, 25, Mabel Ofosu Opokuaa, 26 and Ernestina Serwaa Agyare, 25, reported at the training school as new recruits but soon realized their names were not on the master list of recruits. A probe into how they had admission letters but were not enlisted led to the disclosure that they were supposedly enlisted in batches during a fake protocol recruitment process at Tema, by Corporal Gaise. They alleged that they each paid between GH�1,000 to GH�2000 before being handed the letters of admission and prospectus to report on September 15 for training. During interrogation, the seven victims alleged that they usually met Gaise at the Zenu School Park or in his house for their letters. One of such meetings, according to them, recorded attendance of over 60 prospective recruits. This, according to DSP Arthur, presupposed that several other victims might be waiting fruitlessly for their turn to be enrolled. He stressed that there was nothing like protocol recruitment, adding that the Police Administration would advertise any such enlistment of vacancies when necessary. He said the Police Service had not engaged or contracted anybody or group to recruit persons for recruitment or employment of any kind. He therefore warned the public to stay away from any clandestine activities in their quest to join the Police Service. Corporal Gaise, if found culpable, would be charged with the offence and prosecuted per the laws of the country. DSP Arthur said no police officer found meddling in any criminal activity would be spared.
