Women Must Contribute Financially Towards The Upkeep Of The Home

A gender advocate has challenged women to contribute meaningfully and financially towards the upkeep of the home. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Setina Aboagye, who is also the Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support (DOVVSU), further advised unemployed women to find jobs for themselves instead of solely relying on the income of their husbands and boyfriends. The gender advocate gave the advise during an interview with the Times newspaper in Sunyani on Monday. She said gender equality can never be achieved if women always have to beg for money from men. It is natural the man will fee in charge if he is the one consistently providing and will eventually want his power to be felt, she said. According to the ASP Aboagye, if women could be dissuaded from being at the receiving end all the time and female children raised not to depend on a man for their survival, poverty would reduce and individual lives would improve.
