President Mahama Woos US Investors To Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has urged American investors to explore investment opportunities in Ghana. He told top American investors on the sidelines of the 67th UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday that Ghana had investment potential in the areas of energy, oil and gas, agriculture and infrastructural development. Ghana happens to be the gateway to West Africa Many of the traders from Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, countries that are constantly food-starved, come to Ghana to take their supplies from whatever we produce - rice, maize and everything, he told them. All the other West African countries have a demand for food supplies and so Ghana could become the hub for supplying all these countries with food," he said. President Mahama said Ghanas weakest link was manufacturing and industry and urged the investors to take advantage of those opportunities. He indicated that the country would provide all the necessary resources and raw materials for the manufacturing industry to grow. He assured the investors that Ghana had a stable democracy, coupled with peace and security for its nationals and foreigners. Perhaps the best thing going for Ghana is stability and peace. It is seen as an oasis of peace in a turbulent continent. Ghanas democracy has been consolidated and it is going to be consolidated further in December when we hold the next elections, he said. The President and Chief Executive of KOSMOS Energy, Mr Brian Maxted, praised Ghana for the smooth transition following the demise of former President John Evans Atta Mills. The world was watching back on July 24, the Tuesday when the former President passed away, and within six hours there was a very peaceful transition of power to His Excellency John Mahama, he said. Mr Maxted stressed that Ghanas smooth transition further testified that it had attained a great height in democracy, noting that Ghana's democratic credentials and respect for the rule of law were sources of encouragement to him.
