No Electricity, No Vote - Kuga Residents

The absence of electricity in Kuga, a suburb of the Yendi Municipality has incurred the wrath of residents there. Angry residents of the area have thus threatened to boycott the December general elections if the area is not connected to the rural electrification grid. With a voter population of about 1,120 captured on the biometric voters register, Kuga which is about one mile from the district capital, Yendi has no electricity. At a news conference on Sunday, a group calling itself the Concerned Kuga citizens association said the area had been neglected by successive governments since 1992. The associations spokesperson, Imoro Ibrahim, warned that no political party would be allowed to campaign in the area till it gets electricity. He stressed that the area has been isolated from the Yendi Municipal Assemblys development agenda thereby making life unbearable for the inhabitants. Mr. Ibrahim said they were tired of the lies and deceit of politicians who always use them for their selfish gains.
