Educational Demand Goes Beyond Free SHS Mahama tells NPP

President John Dramani Mahama has said that the demand for education in Ghana goes beyond a free Senior High School. Addressing the Ghanaian community in New York, President Mahama stated that Ghana at its present stage needs a programme aimed at giving the youth skills and training to meet the demands of the job market. He said: Looking at our educational system without promising something for which the electorates will vote you into power. Indeed, technical and vocational education is very important in terms of creating the kinds of skills set and providing employment for the youth to go into the oil sector. According to him, although the NPP is promising a free SHS education when voted into power, the NDC believes that we must look at what our educational system is looking for and based on what our educational system wants at the present stage of our development. The NDC flagbearer therefore opined that we must give a programme to Ghanaians to access it and see which of the two programmes in terms of education is better and that is why I have refrained from commenting on this free SHS policy.
