STATEMENT: Release John Kumah Now...Or Charge Him

The Young Patriots, a youth wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued an ultimatum to the Economic and Organized Crime Organization (EOCO) to formally press charges against their compatriot, John Kumah, who was arrested on Wednesday night or release him from their custody unconditionally. The group warns that they will fiercely resist any attempt to keep him beyond the constitutionally mandated period. John Kumah, the outspoken spokesperson of the Young Patriots, was picked up on Wednesday together with his business consultant, one Henry by officials of EOCO over what is alleged to be the faking of some documents to access a loan. Thus, the constitutionally mandated period of 48hours for holding a suspect elapses today. In a statement issued by the group over the matter, the Young Patriots boldly stated that they will not be muzzled by this turn of events and thus described John Kumahs arrest as a pathetic attempt at political equalization which will not salvage the dented and battered image of President Mahama as the most corrupt President in Ghanas political history. We, the Young Patriots, are aware of the scheme by the ruling NDC to eliminate and deal individually with the membership of the Young Patriots. We shall not and will never be intimidated. In fact, the arrest of our colleague has increased our resolve to soldier on to expose President Mahama and his government and their corrupt activities....John Kumah was picked up after his bashing of President Mahama and his brother Ibrahim in their role in the collapse of Merchant Bank PLC on Wednesday 3rd October 2012 on Okfm. We are aware of the various trails of National Security and BNI operatives on the executives of Young Patriots. We are not perturbed...No one shall stop us in that duty, not even the special forces of President Mahama, the statement said.
