NPP Seeks Protection Over Armed Robbery Attacks

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has told Citi News it will request for special protection from the Interior Ministry for some key members of the party. This follows recent attacks on three of its stalwarts at gun point in a space of three weeks. In an interview with Citi News, the partys Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey stated that he suspects these are deliberate attempts to intimidate NPP party members. The worry is that all of this, we had known and suspected for some time that is why we came with the thing about having to sacrifice to protect the God given right that we have to our democracy, he said. Mr. Lamptey added that the party has cause to worry due to comments made by Yaw Boateng Gyan, and also by Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, yes, we are extremely worried. Even though you knew it could happen, you still had the hope that it wouldnt happen. And so we will be calling upon the Minister of Interior to give proper protection to NPP senior members. We cant help these harassments and intimidations going on. He alleged that a member of the NPP Communication team, John Kumah was told by EOCO that he should stop attacking the government positions on radio and if he stops that the case against him will disappear, then you will know that there is a real concerted move among the people who in areas that are to protect the citizen. The NPP National Chairman however mentioned that the party is not accusing the ruling NDC saying, I am not going to point fingers at anybody but I am going to say that it falls within our suspicion that there was going to be massive intimidation and if it is not stopped, it will go to prove that massive intimidation was strategically put into operation by our opponents.
