The Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Tuesday called on President John Dramani Mahama to ensure fairness and equity in policing for the sustenance of national stability. The party at a press conference in Sunyani said it could not trust the Regional Police hierarchy to act independently and to remain non-partisan in the upcoming 2012 elections. �Our source within the Police hierarchy in the Region confirms our suspicion about attempts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to use the Police against even very decent and law abiding citizens�, it stated. Mr. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, Regional Chairman of the NPP, stated in a press statement titled: �Concerns about Security in the Region towards the General Elections - Our Suspicions and Doubts�. He said the NPP was poised to play its part to ensure that Ghana�s democracy was built on a solid rock of sacrifice by the people. �Our fear of uncertainties in the impending elections has been confirmed by the extension of the tenure of office of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Robert Ayalingo, Regional Police Commander even though he is due for retirement�, Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh stated. The NPP Regional Chairman called on the National Security to act swiftly and revoke the contract of DCOP Ayalingo. Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh alleged that during the biometric voter�s registration exercise some supporters of the NDC caused injuries to NPP supporters in the Techiman South, Asutifi South as well as Asunafo North and Asunafo South constituencies and the Police failed to arrest the perpetrators for prosecution even though the NPP officially reported incidents.
