Should You Flirt To Get Ahead?

I so love this topic. Lets face it women, we all flirt with the boss, our colleagues and male friends once in a while. And the men just love it when the ambitious seductress in the workplace, when the smothering knockout or the practical temptress makes a pass at them or flirt with them. But I dont fully buy into this study. According to a recent study by Laura Kray (University of California-Berkeley) the rest of us (women) might get-ahead by following in our line-crossing footsteps: feminine charm. Translation: women can really get ahead by flirting. Say what? Wait, really!. If that is true then I should be a manager by now because I am quite the flirt myself. I flirt to get my way sometimes, I flirt because I want a guy to feel good about himself and I flirt because I just love to flirt as simple as that. So why does flirting work? Per Kray says, its a signal of dominance and self-regard. I feel that but wait before you start calling me the B word or all the other awful names you can ever think of or even misconstrue my character. Let me make this as clear as possible. I love to flirt but the idea of flirting to get ahead isnt really empowering at all. To me, it is kind of backward to think that you can flirt to get ahead. Let s look at it this way, Is a victory a victory no matter how you earn it, or is it hollow if you had to fawn over a dude to get there? Also, how flirty is too flirty? And if were trying to level ground and break the gender gap, can this all really help? The answer is NO to me. Now, before you start batting your eyelashes at your boss (which is a no go area for me), keep in mind that: although a little girlish charm could be a good thing in the workplace, it will hurt you in the long run if its perceived in the wrong way.
