Do Regular Check-Ups- Priest Advised

Catholic Priest has been urged to attach importance to their health as they cater for the spiritual welfare of the faithful. Rev. Sr. Dr. Lucy Hometowu, SMMC, Medical Superintendent in-charge of the Margaret Marquart Catholic Hospital, at Kpando in the Ho Diocese said this in a keynote address at the recent Inter-Diocesan gathering of Priests of the three Dioceses of the Volta Region. The four-day programme, held at the Jasikan Diocesan Formation and Counseling Centre at Nsuta-Buem attracted about 120 Priests from the Dioceses of Ho, Keta-Akatsi and Jasikan. It was themed: The Catholic Priest and His Health. Delivering her address, Sr. Hometowu, took the Priests through the causes, symptoms and diagnosis of Hypertension, Diabetes, Prostate diseases and HIV. She also touched on ways of managing the diseases to prolong lives of the patient. She entreated Priests to regularly undergo medical screening, seek early medical attention in time of ailment and exercise often, in order to be healthy to serve the faithful well. Sr. Hometowu, expressed the need for every Priest to have a medical doctor, urging them to undergo medical check-ups at least once a year. Acknowledging that there was a heavy workload on Priests in their Ministry, Sr. Hometowu advised them to include more fruits and green vegetables in their diets, reduce intake of fatty and fried foods, and desist from over-eating and late eating.
