Sulley Muntari Returns To Action; Boost for AFCON

Ghana were handed a massive Nations Cup boost on Saturday after midfielder Sulley Muntari made a quicker-than-expected return from injury. The 28-year-old, who plays for Italian giants AC Milan, played his first match in four months on Saturday since suffering a serious knee injury. He played the entire duration of the game as AC Milan's youth side who thrashed Modena 5-1 with the Ghanaian setting up one of the goals. Muntari played the entire game for the Rossoneri youth side and helped set up the second goal with an all-round positive afternoon for the Milan midfielder. Coming back from injury, Muntari put in a powerful performance both in attack and in defence. Muntari was a major doubt for next year's tournament in South Africa after suffering a knee injury while on hlolidays in his home country in July. Doctors ruled him out of action for six months which made him a serious doubt for Africa's flagship tournament which starts in January. But with his determination to return to the field in good time for the tournament, Muntari worked on his fitness in the gym, speeding up his recovery. With full time action for the second side, Muntari will be considered for action for the club's top-flight side in the coming days. His return is a boost for Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah who will be hoping to name him in the Black Stars list for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in January.
